Jessica Harp — A Woman Needs

Single Review Written by birdykins January 21, 2010
Jessica Harp — A Woman Needs If you’re slightly oblivious like I am you might not recognize the name Jessica Harp; a new artist making big waves on the country scene. Jessica is best known as the “not Michelle Branch girl” from the duo The Wreckers. It pains me to admit that although I am a fan of The Wreckers I had no idea who she was until I read her bio. Well, Jessica is poised to burst out from underneath Michelle Branch’s shadow with her new single "A Woman Needs." The single from the similarly titled album is climbing up the country charts and marks a significant departure from the tear-jerker and introspective songs of The Wreckers. The song starts out strong with a quick pounding tempo and the faint background strum of a banjo. Her voice is light and almost airy bouncing along with the strumming of guitar (reminiscent of Carrie Underwood), and when she bursts in with uplifting... Read More »

Jessica Harp knows what A Woman Needs

Interviews Written by Jamie July 23, 2009
Jessica Harp knows what A Woman Needs Jessica Harp currently has a single that is on the charts, Boy Like Me and her solo debut album entitled A Woman Needs is due out in stores in September, although an exact date has not been released yet. You may recognize her as one half of the country duo, The Wreckers (the other half being Michelle Branch). The Wreckers decided to take a break and pursue solo records when they realized they were going in different directions. Jessica graciously took time out of her currently very busy schedule to answer some questions for us! FM: As you prepare for you solo debut, can you describe the feeling? How is it different than when you were preparing for the Stand Still, Look Pretty (SSLP) release? Jessica: I'm feeling absolutely ecstatic that I'm about to put out in to the world the record I wanted to make since I was a kid! It's different from SSLP in... Read More »

Jessica Harp Live at Joe’s Pub

Concert Review Written by Emily Rose July 23, 2009
Jessica Harp Live at Joe’s Pub Jessica Harp, known as one half of the duo The Wreckers has been making music long before anyone knew she existed. That didn’t stop the songwriter from making timeless music. So it comes as no surprise to the fans who have been following her career for a while that she’s finally stepping out into her own bright spotlight. The long-awaited major label debut of Harp is entitled A Woman Needs and is due out later this year (much to the chagrin of her faithful followers; they’ve been waiting forever it seems.) Tuesday, July 7th, Harp previewed her upcoming record in New York City at Joe’s Pub. The small venue was intimate and quiet, and seated around one hundred people. Guests could sit at a table and order dinner and drinks while watching Harp perform. I opted not to order dinner and sat at the bar where I had... Read More »

Jessica Harp – Boy Like Me

Single Review Written by Jamie April 7, 2009
Jessica Harp – Boy Like Me [cft format=2] I always tend to be a bit biased towards musicians I truly love and admire and this is probably no exception. I've been a fan of Jessica's since early 2000. I've watched her grow not only as a person but also as a musician. When she decided to do The Wreckers project (The Wreckers were a duo featuring Jessica and Michelle Branch that put out an album in 2006 called Stand Still, Look Pretty and then decided to pursue solo projects in 2008) instead of a solo album, I'll admit, I was very disappointed. I wanted it to be Jess's time to shine instead of just being in a band with Michelle Branch. Needless to say, with this single coming out and Jess's major solo album debut on the horizon, I am thrilled! However, this song is not exactly what I had pictured as Jess's first single. First of all, she... Read More »
